Reset 180 day trial version

To reset the Windows 180-day trial evaluation period, you must use the built-in Software Licensing Management Tool (slmgr) from an elevated command line. Running the command slmgr /rearm will reset your evaluation timer back to 180 days, provided you have remaining “rearms” on your system.

Follow these steps to complete the process:

Step 1: Open Command Prompt as Administrator

  1. Click the Start Menu or press the Windows Key.
  2. Type cmd into the search bar.
  3. Right-click on Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.

Step 2: Check Your Remaining Resets (Optional)

Before resetting, it is highly recommended to check how many times you are allowed to extend the trial.

  • Type the following command and press Enter:cmdslmgr /dlv Use code with caution.
  • A windows popup will appear. Look for Remaining Windows rearm count.
    • Note: Older Windows Server versions (like 2016, 2019, 2022) typically allow up to 6 rearms (3 years total). Newer versions like Windows Server 2025 may limit you to a single extension.

Step 3: Reset the Expiration Timer

  1. Type the rearm command and press Enter:

cmd

slmgr /rearm

Use code with caution.

  1. Wait a few seconds for a popup message that says: “Command completed successfully. Please restart the system to apply the changes.”.

Step 4: Restart Your System

You must reboot the computer or server for the new 180-day countdown to take effect. You can restart manually or type this command into the prompt to restart immediately:
