McAfee – Norton pop-ups on Windows 11

Most persistent McAfee warnings appear in the bottom-right corner of your screen (mimicking the Windows Action Center) or inside your browser, even if you do not have McAfee installed. These are usually rogue website push notifications.

In Google Chrome:

  1. Open Chrome and click the three dots in the top-right corner, then select Settings.
  2. Click Privacy and security on the left menu, then select Site settings (or visit chrome://settings/content/notifications).
  3. Scroll down to Notifications under permissions.
  4. Look under the Allowed to send notifications list for any strange or unrecognized websites.
  5. Click the three dots next to the suspicious site and select Remove or Block.
  6. (Optional) Toggle off “Sites can ask to send notifications” to prevent future prompts.

In Microsoft Edge:

  1. Open Edge and click the three dots in the top-right corner, then select Settings.
  2. Click Privacy, search, and services on the left, then scroll down to Site permissions.
  3. Click Notifications (or All permissions > Notifications).
  4. Under Allowed, find any suspicious websites, click the three dots next to them, and select Remove or Block.
  5. Check your installed extensions by going to edge://extensions or via the menu (Alt + F > Extensions > Manage extensions) and remove any unknown or shady add-ons.
